Presenting
Steve Sutherland was the key speaker at Birkbeck Sports Business Centre on Wednesday October 7th 2009 where he presented on the subject of the effective implementation of Corporate Social Responsibility policy in English football.
Birkbeck’s Sean Hamil said: "On behalf of the Management Department, Birkbeck College, University of London, I would like to thank you formally for giving such a terrific presentation on the Birkbeck Sport Business Seminar Series last night. The feedback from our students has been excellent. The fact that the question and answer session over-ran its allotted time says everything about the high level of interest that your presentation aroused. "Corporate Social Responsibility is a topic which is currently much in vogue in both business and academic life, but which in my experience is much misunderstood in terms of how it might most effectively be implemented. In this regard I thought your articulation of how a thoughtfully-crafted corporate social responsibility policy can fit within a wider business strategy was absolutely masterful. Your lecture was as much about successful strategy building as about CSR. "Thanks also for demonstrating the clear links between CSR and sponsorship policy, and the real potential for benefits of partnerships between sports organisations and commercial sponsors. This was Steve’s second appearance on the Series, with the latest lecture titled ‘The Effective Implementation of Corporate Social Responsibility Policy in English Football’, and was attended by a 40-strong crowd. Former Birkbeck student, Jose Pedro Gigante Sanchez said: "I would like to thank Steve for the such an inspiring presentation. I was the only Spanish person in the audience and so I was aware of all of Steve's Charlton Athletic programmes due to the fact that I spend my summers in Malaga, where Charlton/ESDE language courses were held." Current student, Lau Tofft, also commented: "I was quite impressed by your ability to create and transform programs which are able to comply with commercial, social and political interest. Being able to act upon sudden occurrences and 'market opportunities' and even successfully transferring some of your programs to a foreign context, is very impressive." Sean Hamill concluded, "Can I thank you again for taking the time out of your busy schedule to give your lecture to our students." Atlantic Cup 2009 Boxing Dinner
