Lucozade Sport signs-up as GB Boxing's Official Sports Nutrition Partner

Posted: 24 June 2010
The British Amateur Boxing Association (BABA) has signed a deal with Lucozade Sport, the UK’s No.1 sports drink, to be its Official Nutrition Partner.

The partnership, which runs until 2013, will complement the brand’s long history of supporting GB performance and follows the best performance for 53 years by the men’s GB Boxing team at the recent (June 2010) European Championships in Moscow, when it landed three silver and two bronze medals.

As Official Sports Nutrition Partner to BABA, Lucozade Sport will support the men’s and women’s Podium Squads and have a presence at its training facility in Sheffield and the BABA’s calendar of events. It will also support a series of grassroots initiatives run by the home nations in England, Scotland and Wales.

Derek Mapp, Executive Chairman, BABA said: "Lucozade’s decision to invest in a relationship with amateur boxing reflects the enormous progress that has been made in the sport over the last few years at both the elite level and the grassroots.

"It reflects amateur boxing’s position as one of GB’s best medal hopes for 2012 and a sport that continues to deliver increases in participation in schools and communities across the UK."

Stewart Crooks, Sponsorship Manger, Lucozade Sport added: "Boxing is one of the fastest growing sports in the UK and our range of sports nutrition products fit the sport’s performance needs perfectly. We are extremely excited about raising the profile of the British Amateur Boxing Association, the talented athletes in its stable and boxing in general."

Lucozade Sport plans to support and leverage the partnership through a programme of activity that will align the brand with GB Boxing’s squad and amateur boxing programmes.

As its Official Nutrition Partner, Lucozade Sport is working with GB Boxing’s nutritionist, Mark Ellison to integrate its range of informed sport tested sport nutrition products into the world class performance programme.

BABA Commercial Consultant, Steve Sutherland said: "I’m delighted that Lucozade Sport have joined forces with the British Amateur Boxing Association.

"The fit is perfect and I’m confident that the partnership will be a successful one for both parties. I am convinced that Lucozade’s confidence in BABA will be rewarded by continued medal success and that other brands will now look closely at building a relationship with what is one of the fastest growing sports in the UK."

The agreement with Lucozade Sport follows a re-vamp of its sponsorship arrangements by the BABA which was set up in 2008 to manage the GB Boxing Olympic Programme. BABA already has a kit sponsorship deal with adidas and is looking to recruit a title sponsor and two other commercial partners.
